Maria Cobo
Holistic Therapist
I did the oncology massage training in August 2023, and by January 2024 I started working with women going through breast cancer—first through a breast cancer charity and then privately. Since then, it’s become a regular part of my week, and I still see people on a weekly basis.
What I’ve learned is that oncology massage isn’t just about using the right techniques. It’s about being present. Every touch carries intention, and every pause is a chance for stillness. It’s not about fixing anything—it’s about helping the nervous system settle, and reminding the body it’s safe, supported, and not alone.
A lot of the women I’ve worked with have been through so much with their bodies—treatments, surgeries, scans—and many feel disconnected or even like their body doesn’t belong to them anymore. Gentle, safe touch can start to rebuild that connection, not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually too.
One of the biggest lessons for me has been about holding space. That means not jumping in to fix or analyse, but just being there—fully present—even if it’s quiet or emotional. Sometimes, the silence says more than words ever could.
And honestly, I’ve learned so much from the women I’ve treated. Their courage shows up every day. They’ve taught me that vulnerability isn’t weakness—It takes real strength to let someone in during such a vulnerable period.
1. Testimonial from KS – a patient at Breast Cancer Charity
I started seeing Maria in June 2024 following my reconstructive breast surgery which also involved some complications which have meant a delayed recovery and also further surgery scheduled for later this year.
Maria is a well-informed practitioner with a comforting and supportive manner which immediately put me at ease . Her ability to listen and empathise has been invaluable to me. She has seen me at my lowest and has always offered encouragement and advice which has really helped me focus on me as an individual to ensure that I’m investing time to allow me to recover the best I can and to learn self-compassion .
I have seen Maria for both reiki and oncology massage and have been so grateful to her for investing in me. She has helped me accept my scars and move to a place that I can now see the path ahead without fear allowing me to accept my scars and the next phase I’m moving on to. I trust Maria and know I can be honest and open with her for which I will always be eternally grateful.
I always look forward to seeing Maria as I know that her healing hands, gentle nature and compassion will allow me to relax in the time I am with her, as well as giving me the space to focus on positive goals and heal. I count myself very lucky to have met Maria and know that she will have played an integral role in my recovery and the rebuilding of me as a person and would not hesitate in recommending her to others.
2. Testimonial from JM, Cancer Survivor
My first words say it all…
Oncology massages are not just what you experience when you visit a SPA, they are so much more and here’s why…
I was first introduced to Maria through a Breast Cancer Support group and it turned out to be the best introduction for me in my recovery journey. After a gruelling 6 months of chemotherapy, surgery (with lymph node removal) and radiation my mind and body were battered and bruised and I was a shadow of my former bubbly and smiley person I remembered and really wanted her back.
Within 5 minutes of meeting Maria, I finally had found someone who “got me”. She could see I was struggling with my mental health and anxiety which whilst it is “normal” after such treatment I was really suffering. For the first session the majority of it was her finding out about me and my struggles. I remember crying a lot and opening up in a way I had never done before, I felt so much lighter coming out of that session and saw a way of getting my old self back.
I have been seeing Maria now for nearly a year every few weeks and I cannot tell you how much better I am both physically and mentally. Maria always knows which part of my battered body needs the most attention but most importantly its that first 5/10 minutes when we have a big hug and a catch up on how I am. Most weeks now it is less crying but on those days when I am feeling down, she listens and reminds me how well I am doing compared to a year ago.
I could go on for hours telling you of how beneficial Oncology massages are and how much Maria has helped me both mentally and physically. In short, she has helped put Humpty Dumpty back together again and more and more I see the bubbly and smiley person I once was before I got my diagnosis.
Dealing with a cancer diagnosis is devastating but the after math and dealing with life after cancer is the hardest journey I have faced but Maria makes every step just that little bit easier and I am truly grateful for this. Thank you, Maria, for everything you do for me and sometimes I don’t know you realise how much.

Lorna Tudor
Assistant Tutor
From the young age of 7 I joined a dance school and I was hooked, which led to me completing a BA(hons) degree in Dance and Professional Practice.
During my degree I also found a passion for massage and the benefits it gave, especially from the considerable training we put our bodies through.
I started my massage training in my early twenties, whilst also working in other roles from office work to qualifying and working as a Personal trainer, as I really enjoy many aspects of fitness and exercise. It wasn’t until after having my children and wanting to return to work, that I made the decision to follow my dream and start my own business.
I ran exercise classes for mother and baby groups and began to build my massage clinic. In 2016 I strengthened my skills and knowledge base by completing a Level 5 diploma in Remedial Massage and Soft Tissue Therapy. Since then I have continued to broaden my skills by completing courses in Oncology massage, Neck Jaw and Chest massage, Kinesio Taping and Dry Needling.

Assistant Tutor
Hi, I’m Kirsty Wales, an oncology massage specialist but how I got here is a long story!
As a child I was fascinated by pictures in a Sunday magazine of Christiaan Barnard performing heart transplant surgery and having kept the magazine for years, it was from here that my passion for human anatomy started. Throughout my school years biology was one of my favourite subjects.
I have always been an outdoors girl, this lead me into an equestrian and fitness career, still with a keen interest in human anatomy and how the body is designed to move and how generally due to our life styles and habits it can’t!
Since 2005 I have been involved in the education side of the fitness industry tutoring and assessing fitness qualifications across the UK. Today, I am heavily involved with the quality assurance elements of maintaining and upholding the standards of many fitness and massage qualifications.
In 2018, I decided to venture in the world of oncology massage and qualified with Susan in January 2019. I have not looked back since!
I have continued to build my client base and strengthen my knowledge and expertise by adding more qualifications like ScarWork and Lymphatic Drainage to my armoury.
I have worked with clients as young as 16 to those in their 80s and I still love every second of my working day.
I consider myself to be a secret weapon against the debilitating and miserable side-effects that cancer can bring. By working together we can maximise the clients physical and mental health through cancer and beyond.
My mission is to spread the word about Oncology Massage, it’s related therapies and the benefits of them to as many people as I can across the UK. This includes clients, families, the medical profession and students!
The more people who know what we do, the more people we can all help and support.
